Roger Mason hits game winning 3 against the Suns

With 4.4 seconds left on the clock, the Spurs were down 90-88. Michael Finley passed the ball in to Parker who quickly drove it to the hoop, dishing the ball out to a wide-open Roger Mason. Mason shot the ball as the clock was ticking the last second of play and nailed a HUGE three-pointer to end the game, leaving the entire U.S Airways Center in total shock. What a game! San Antonio got a great christmas present this year!

“Men Lie, Women Lie, Numbers Dont”

In a league where numbers matter, the elusive triple double average for an entire season is like hitting .400 in baseball for an entire year. Will we ever see anyone average double digits in points, rebounds, and assists in the modern era of the NBA? Probably not. I do know that one of the longest standing measures of dominant play is the “20 and 10″ player. If you are averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds, or in the case of guards, 20 points and 10 assists, you were among the elite in the NBA. Read more

Here Come The Spurs

SpursSan Antonio had a rough November, but with a healthy Tony Parker and Manu Ginobli, and Tim Duncan putting up his normal 21 and 10 every night, The Spurs have quietly won six in a row, and are stiting at a very respectable 15-8 right now. While the Spurs Big 3 has been key as always, the bench has been the difference in this current winning streak. Roger Mason and Matt Bonner are playing significant minutes in long stretches of the game for the Spurs, and are contributing well. San Antonio, like many teams, wants to add depth to their front court, and I expect them to attempt to make a move to sign a veteran as we draw closer to the All-Star break. The very competitive Southwest Division has four teams seperated by only 1.5 games, so the difference between champion, and being outside the playoffs is minimal. Since San Antonio usually goes to the Finals every other year anyway, would anyone be surprised if we saw this next summer?

The Wizards will tank the season

Wizards
(Editors Note: This was written before the Wizards collapse against the Rockets 11/21/08)

Fans in Washington D.C have watched painfully as their once promising, playoff bound Washington Wizards have looked more like a college basketball team than one getting paid to play this year. Sure, it’s easy to say they are missing Gilbert Arenas, who was out most of last season as well, and Brendan Haywood, who was without question their most improved player last season. The Wizards are off to a 1-8 start, and even if Arenas and Haywood do return, they will be in for a rude awakening. Read more
